Students [College/university as well as school level] who participate in the Science Based Competition [SBC] Programme, and are selected to represent South Africa in official international event[s] receive National Colours for Science Based Competition.

The New Frontiers Science Competition is the Gateway domestic programme to qualify for selection as international participants. All candidates must do a research project, and have to be assessed by a panel of qualified judges to be eligible for selection.

The allocation of South African colours for Science Based Competition is regulated by the Standards and Ethics Committee of the NYDT.
