School students may attend Science camps in wilderness areas of South Africa and Africa to do adventure based research projects.
Areas of Research
The following camps have been scheduled:
- Heritage and history – archaeology and paleontology
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Geology and Earth Science
- Astronomy and planetary science
- Aerospace design and flight
- Adventure and sport
Next Camp
The next camp has been scheduled for December 8 to 12 [2008]: The 2 Craters Space Camp will take place at the meteorite impact craters at Tswaing near Pretoria and at Vredefort near Parys in the Free Sate. Please navigate to http://www.nydt.org/home.asp?pid=1044 for more information.
During the camps students may do research work for their science projects. Projects may count for students’ school report cards, and the best projects will be selected to participate in international Science Based Competitions. Students who participate officially in International Science Based Competition will receive South African colours for Science Based Competition [SBC]. During the wilderness camps students also receive training in the principles of leadership.
Cost
The cost of wilderness Science camps vary, and in each case a cost analysis is made to determine the expenses.
